I am currently a third-year hematology/oncology fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. I am very excited to join and learn from the Cost of Care team.

Early in my clinical training, I was struck by how the care that we wanted to provide for our patients often looked very different from the care that our patients received in our very complex and sometimes very fragmented healthcare system. As a result, I became interested in identifying and understanding systemic barriers in care delivery in order to develop process interventions that improve cancer care. I have had the opportunity to participate in several projects studying innovative methods in cancer care delivery to increase clinical trial enrollment, streamline genetic counseling, and improve end of life care.

I am interested in improving cancer care costs because I have seen firsthand how the physical, emotional, and psychological burden of cancer treatment is often compounded by the financial toll it takes on patients and their families. As a fellow, I am studying the impact of a direct-to-consumer pharmacy in reducing generic prescription drug-related financial toxicity. Through mentorship from the Cost of Care team, I hope to further study policies and interventions that can improve financial toxicity and increase value-based cancer care.

I completed my internal medicine residency and a chief residency year in quality and patient safety at Yale. I am completing my hematology/oncology training at MD Anderson and have previously served as the chief QI fellow. Outside of medicine, I enjoy hiking, painting, and spending time with my husband, daughter, and dog.
