Measuring What Matters

INTRODUCTION TO MEASURING WHAT MATTERS

Value in health care is created by helping patients and families in ways that improve quality of life and dignity of death. Patient-focused care means different things in different organizations, but in every health care delivery setting, the goal is to help patients and families with health.
This module will help you gain understanding of how to identify patient outcomes that matter, and how to participate in measuring, evaluating, and improving results for patients. We will also provide insights on process measures, which are critical to achieving and monitoring improvement.

“Among the most important provider steps in moving to value-based competition is the measurement of results and the factors that influence them. It is difficult to improve value without measuring results. No physician or provider organization will be truly effective in attaining and sustaining excellence without knowing where it stands. A move by providers to measure results, make results transparent, and use results’ information to improve value would be the single most important step in transforming the health care system.”
